Update GMG ColorProof to a New Version

From GMG ColorProof version 5.13 on, the license information on the USB dongle will be updated automatically when a new chargeable version is released and if you have a GMG Software Update Contract (SUC) or subscription and your system is connected to the internet. GMG ColorProof will also show a notification about the new version and then you can decide if and when to update the system.

GMG ColorProof recognizes if you have a GMG Software Update Contract (SUC) or subscription. Your USB dongle will be updated automatically. You do not need to worry about having the right license. The version notification is shown only to systems entitled to the new version after they received the license.

You can simply click the Install button to start the setup. All required resources will be downloaded automatically via the internet.

Before starting the installation, check that no other GMG applications, especially GMG ColorServer server, are still running on the computer you want to do the update. To verify GMG ColorServer server is not running, check the Notification Area of the Windows taskbar. The GMG ColorServer Service Monitor service needs to be stopped, indicated by an icon with a red dot: If this is not the case, click the icon with the right mouse button to open the context menu and click Stop.

The installation will commence immediately when you click the Install button. In case you are prompted to enter the Administrator Password, the installation will commence immediately when you click the OK button. The installation process will take a couple of minutes. The application will be restarted during the process. If jobs are still being processed, the installer will notify you.

I do not have time now. Can I do the update later?

Sure, you can do it any time later. Just click the Not Now button to cancel the installation. When you are ready to install the update, go to the Help menu and click Search for Update.

GMG ColorProof is not in Administration Mode. Can I install the update without Administrator Password?

No. If GMG ColorProof is not in Administration Mode when you click the Install button, you will be prompted to enter the Administrator Password. Without the password, you cannot install the update. The installation will commence immediately when you enter the password and click the OK button. Please follow the link for more information: Switching the User

Can I deactivate the automatic check for updates?

Yes, click the System button on the main navigation panel, go to the General tabbed page, Default Settings, and deselect Check for Updates.

With the deactivation of the automatic check, you will also loose the convenience of installing a new version automatically.

The deactivation does not affect the automatic license update in case you have a valid SUC or subscription and the computer where the dongle is connected has an active internet connection. This means you can receive license updates via the GMG cloud, but you cannot upgrade the software to a new version automatically.

The computer on which GMG ColorProof is installed has no active internet connection (or a very slow one). Can I do the update without an internet connection?

Sure, you can go to the GMG website, download a Full Setup, copy it to the target computer, and manually install it.

After the software update, the application shows license errors or incorrect license information. What to do?

Unexpected license errors or incorrect license information can be caused by an outdated version of the Application Service which distributes the license information to all GMG applications running on the computer. Install the latest version which can be found here:
