GMG ColorMaster in a Box is a color management workflow concept for easy realization of an automated RGB workflow up to the Color OK, and subsequent conversion to a wide variety of printing standards, including proofing and verification. ColorMaster in a Box comprises a DVD containing color profiles, predefined GMG workflows and color management settings, as well as video tutorials.
Target Groups
ColorMaster is suitable for agencies, repro shops, prepress businesses and print buyers who create data for a wide variety of media and printing processes, or process printing data for production in different countries, and thus have to take different standards into account.
GMG ColorMaster in a Box compensates for the disadvantages of a pure CMYK or RGB workflow.
Software components involved
RGB normalization
GMG ColorServer is used to convert the different RGB image data to the central AdobeRGB working color space. This is done automatically with the help of preconfigured hotfolder settings in GMG ColorServer.
Image retouching
Like all working color spaces, AdobeRGB is optimized not for print production, but for monitors. Therefore, the colors of AdobeRGB image data have to be adapted, and the images retouched, for final print production. To make work easier, however, these RGB image data do not have to be retouched for each of the different printing standards, but only optimized for the GMG ColorMaster CMYK color space. Image retouching is performed with active soft proofing using the GMG ColorMaster color space, the data still being in the AdobeRGB color space.
GMG supplies predefined color settings for Adobe Bridge for the Adobe Creative Suite. The Adobe Bridge settings ensure that Photoshop and InDesign are provided with the correct color management and soft proofing settings. Once the colors of the images on the calibrated monitor are OK, the retouched images are again stored in the AdobeRGB color space.
PhotoProof and Color OK
The retouched AdobeRGB image data are then proofed with GMG ColorProof with the help of the preconfigured hotfolders. The GMG PhotoProof profiles supplied are optimized for AdobeRGB image data with simulation of the GMG ColorMaster color space. Based on these PhotoProof prints, the customer gives his "Color OK" for production of the image data.
Data production and color conversion to different printing standards
The printing data are completed in Adobe InDesign in the form of a PDF/X-3 master file using predefined GMG PDF Export settings. The PDF Export settings of GMG ColorMaster can be used directly in InDesign. The image data are in the AdobeRGB color space. The text and vector data are created in the GMG ColorMaster CMYK working color space.
The resultant PDF/X-3 master file is then converted with GMG ColorServer for each printing standard required. Corresponding hotfolders for conversion to the common sheet-fed offset, web offset and gravure printing processes are already preconfigured in GMG ColorServer. The processed PDF/X-3 file is then in the respective process-dependent CMYK color space of the printing standard and ready for print production.
Proofing of the final printing data
The final printing data now only have to be proofed with the proofing profiles of GMG ColorProof. Final verification is performed using GMG ProofControl. The proof with GMG ProofControl verification label is then sent to the print shop, together with the printing data.
