Worldwide GMG/X-Rite “scrapping campaign” for old i1 measuring instruments

Tuebingen (June 17, 2009) – GMG, developer and supplier of high-end color management and proofing solutions, announces that within a special campaign customers who use older i1 devices (Revision A or B) can purchase a new i1 at a special price of 699 EUR until August 15, 2009. To be able to purchase the i1 at the special price, the old i1 has to be sent in to GMG via authorized dealers.

The objective of this campaign is to make sure that as many customers as possible work with state-of-the-art devices. GMG ProofControl in combination with i1 measuring instruments has been an indispensable part of daily proof production and verification for years. But only measuring instruments that operate within the specifications of the prescribed standard really fulfill their purpose. That makes recertification an important issue. The factory calibration of an i1 is valid for 12 months, after which time X-Rite offers recertification for all spectrophotometers. To this end, the device is sent to the Service Department at the X-Rite factory, where it is tested and cleaned before subjected to the same calibration procedure as a newly manufactured unit.

In the case of much older devices of Revision A or B in daily use, recertification is often not worth while for financial reasons, because the repair costs by far exceed the remaining value of the device. The current i1 instruments also boost productivity compared to the first-generation devices, since the progress made in sensor development now allows them to perform measurements twice as fast.
